Taking part in the season opening Big Timer Baseball tournament in Watsonville earlier this month, the Hornets rode a hot streak to the championship, compiling a 4-0 record for the title.
Led by a pair of Gavilan college coaches, Rob Sanchez and Kyle Bennett, the Hornets, picked up two victories on Saturday – 12-3 over the Garlic City Ghosts and 8-2 over the San Jose Cardinals (a U15 squad) – to earn the No. 3-seed for Day 2.
The Hornets advanced to the championship game with a 7-3 nod against the Central Coast Hustlers. In the closest contest of the weekend, the Hornets edged the Vapors, out of Aptos, 2-1.
