Three members of a Gilroy family have returned home nearly a month after a fatal car accident outside Stockton, while a fourth continues her fight at a Northern California children’s hospital, according to a family friend.

Joyce and Howard Hall, along with their two granddaughters, Maya and Autumn, are recovering from a July 19 head-on wreck along Highway 88 that left a 16-year-old Lodi girl dead and her 13-year-old sister seriously injured, said Kat Teraji, family friend and columnist for the Dispatch.

Joyce Hall, 65, Howard Hall, 68, and Autumn, 8, have returned home while Maya, 10, continues to receive treatment at the University of California, Davis Children’s Hospital.

Neighbors and friends are assisting the Halls, who underwent rehabilitation at a Sacramento area hospital and are wheelchair-bound, by agreeing to bring them meals through the end of this month, Teraji said.

Howard Hall was hospitalized with a broken right leg, broken ribs, internal bleeding and bruises, she said, while Joyce Hall suffered monitored brain bleeding, along with injuries to her ankle, leg, knees, ribs, lungs and liver.

The granddaughters suffered severe internal injuries.

A fundraiser Sunday at El Roble Elementary, where the granddaughters attend, pulled in approximately $2,000 to help cover medical costs.

A memorial for Rebekah Laplant, the 16-year-old who died in the crash, was held July 30. Her family is fundraising for funeral expenses and also is seeking funds to help pay for medical expenses for the younger sister, Emma Laplant who was injured in the accident.

Donations can be sent to Katy Laplant, care of Michael and Michelle Caisse, 4767 Castana Drive, Cameron Park, CA, 95682.
