The Gilroy Recreation Department put on the seventh annual Garlic Texas Hold’ ‘Em Tournament on Saturday at the Gilroy Senior Center.

The 30th in a series of recreational Texas Hold ‘Em events, Team Terrill captured the team championship as both Shawn Terrill and Donna Fleitchman made the Final Table. The other members of the four-person title team were Mark Terrill and Lonnie Terrill.

Mark Dover outlasted the other 59 players during the five-hour tournament to win the overall championship. Dover topped Melanie Mikeska, a four-time women’s champion, after one hand of heads-up play to complete the tournament.

Bumper Patereau, a men’s champion in the February Super Showdown, placed third.

Serena Malech anchored Team Malech to a third-place showing in the team competition. Malech finished fourth overall. Elizabeth Malech (Serena’s grand daughter) helped the team effort by finishing 20th overall. Helping the team to the surprise showing for a first-time unit were husband, Keith Malech (25th), and son, Roger Malech (30th).

The Halloween Hold ‘Em Tournament is scheduled for Saturday Oct. 29. Further information is available at 846-0460.
