“I am curious why you can’t drive straight on Princevalle Street through Sixth Street? I don’t know of any other intersections in the area with this same issue. Can you let us all know why? Thank you.”

Red Phone: Dear Detour Not Needed,  The island at that intersection has been there for about 30 years, said Don Dey, the city’s traffic engineer. It was designed to ease some of the traffic issues and make the road safer along Princevalle when Gilroy High School was constructed.

Trash pick-up changes hours
“I live on Church Street south of 10th Street. They used to pick up the garbage cans about 7 a.m. in the morning. But now they don’t pick them up until the afternoon. If they did change the schedule. I would like to know so I don’t have to leave the cans out there for 18 hours or more.”

Red Phone: Dear Out Of A Routine, There are a few trucks that stop in this area so the change could be limited to just your house or block, said Phil Couchee, the general manager of Recology, which the city contracts with for trash removal. He requested that you call him at 846-1395 so he can get your address to determine what the problem is. And good caller, let the Red Phone know how it turns out.
