Downtown Gilroy has taken on a level of infamy for its abandoned buildings. Some are unreinforced masonry buildings that have remained unoccupied for several years. Others – such as 7347 Monterey Road – aren’t considered structurally unsafe, but are still empty and just as uninviting. The building’s windows are partially boarded, and its stark white facade has faded. Adjacent to the structure is another city-owned building, 7353 Monterey Road, that is scheduled to be demolished by the end of this year, according to Kristi Abrams, City of Gilroy Community Development Director.
