Ralph Robert Munoz, Sr., 89 of Gilroy, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, April 2, 2011.
He was born on October 24, 1921 in San Miguel, Jal. Mexico. Ralph was preceded in death by his son, Ralph Munoz Jr. in 2003.
Ralph moved to Gilroy in 1976 and worked in construction all his life where he made many friends.
He retired from Granite Rock of Gilroy in 1981 and started his own concrete pumping business, with the help of his sons. After serving Santa Clara County and surrounding areas for eight years, he retired again and had more time to enjoy fishing and boating in local reservoirs and lakes. He enjoyed classic cars and hot rods. His all-time favorite was a 1929 Roadster. He was a member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church and belonged to Teamsters Local Union 287.
Ralph joined the United States Army in November 1942 as a Machine Gunner. He was a World War II Veteran and received a Purple Heart, and was honorably discharged in 1945 at Camp Beale, CA. He also received the Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the American Campaign Medal.
Ralph is survived by his wife Virginia Munoz, daughters Pat Aguirre of Salinas, Lexi Grier of Chico, Lynda Kerr of Gilroy, and Cindi Munoz of Gilroy, and sons Rick and Randy Munoz, both of Gilroy. Also survived by ten grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the team at Hospice of the Valley for their kindness and compassion that our father received during his transition.
Full military services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, April 15th, 2011, at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, Gustine, CA.
