Morgan Hill – A suspicious blaze nearly destroyed a two-story home near the Morgan Hill City Hall early Wednesday morning, according to Santa Clara County Fire Department officials.

No one was in the house when the fire started, and no fire personnel were injured. The call came in about 2am, and 13 units responded, including the Fire Association of Santa Clara Valley, San Jose Fire Department, as well as local SCCDF and CAL FIRE South Santa Clara County.

The two-story home was apparently under renovation. There was no furniture or other personal items inside.

The entire second story was destroyed when the fire vented through the ceiling of the first floor, according to Operations Secretary Cheryl Roth. The attic space on the first floor and the kitchen, dining room and rear enclosed porch on the first floor were also gutted.

Damage is estimated to be $350,000 to the structure, and the fire is under investigation, Roth said.
