No reservations needed; no charge, although a free will offering will be taken after each presentation. Saint Francis Center is located at 7950 Church St., just north of St. Mary School office.
– Thursday, March 8, 7pm, Brian Malovny will share his year-long mission in Israel and the surrounding area. Come and hear this eyewitness account of the struggles in the Holy Land. Meet in Saint Francis Center, common room.
– Thursday, March 15, 7pm, Rosemary Stasek will share her work for and with the women of Afghanistan. Come and hear what one person can do for others. Meet in the church.
– Thursday, March 22, 7pm, Mike Monroe will give us the little ways we can help sustain our earth. Come and see portions of the film “An Inconvenient Truth” and talk about caring for the Earth. Meet in the church.

Chance for kids to discover art
Gilroy – The 2007 Kids Discover Arts event will be held from 10am to 3pm, Saturday, at Ascension Solorsano Middle School, located at 7121 Grenache Way.
More than 20 local artisans will conduct “hands-on” art workshops and activities for children ages 5 to 11. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Admission is free, and children are encouraged to wear paint-friendly clothing.
Register students at St. Mary’s
Gilroy – Registration for St. Mary School, 2007 – ’08, will take place at noon Saturday, in the school gym, 15 First St.
The school enrolls students in grades K-8. Bring your child’s birth certificate, baptismal certificate (if applicable) and a $25 application fee. The application form can be found on the school Web site, www.stmarygilroy.org or picked up at registration.
Students in grades first through eighth will be screened once paperwork is complete; students entering Kindergarten will choose a testing time on either March 10 or March 17.

Work abroad in Gilroy’s sister city
Gilroy – A Coordinator of International Relations is needed to strengthen sister city relations, represent Gilroy at events and socials, arrange international travel, build cross cultural relationships, and teach English and American culture in Gilroy’s sister city in Japan. The contract is good for one year and includes good salary, medical benefits, a furnished apartment, and travel expenses. The position starts October 13. All applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree, be from the Gilroy/Morgan Hill area, love people and trying new things.

VNA grief support group meets
Gilroy – Are you having difficulty coping with the death of a loved one? Do you feel as if the pain will never go away? You are not alone, and help is available.
The Central Coast Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice and the Kaiser Gilroy Medical Center have partnered together to provide free and confidential grief support groups to all community members in need.
Beginning March 12, group meetings will be held the second Monday of every month from 4:30 to 6pm at the Kaiser Gilroy Medical Center in conference room 3 and 4.

Apply for Gav youth piano competition
Gilroy – Piano students 8 to 18 years of age are invited to participate in the music department’s second piano competition, Saturday at Gavilan College Theatre.
Division One will be open for students 8 to 10, Division Two for students 11 to 13, and Division Three for those 14 to 18. Entry fee is $25, non refundable, per participant.
The day of the competition, each participant will be expected to have prepared (by memory) two stylistically contrasting pieces All contestants will audition the afternoon of the competition. At the conclusion of the auditions the finalists of Division Three will be named and will compete in the final evening competition and will be invited to play at the Gavilan Bach To Blues concert in March and may be asked to perform for the South Valley Symphony Youth Concert. Cash prizes range from $50 to $500 and will be awarded to the three winners for each division.

GHS, San Jose Giants team up
Gilroy – GHS Baseball has set up a fundraiser with he help of the San Jose Giants. The event is April 14 which is opening weekend for the Giants and is also GHS athletics night at the Municipal Stadium. Tickets to the game are on sale for $5, the tickets are normally $9. Eighty percent of the $5 goes to GHS athletics.
The game is at 5pm and there is a firework show afterward.
Tickets can be purchased from any GHS baseball, softball and football players, at GHS baseball games or by calling 710-1354.
