Let Elected Officials Run The City

I just wanted to comment on that article that was in Feb. 24
Dispatch,

Council Questions Attorney.

I could not believe that article that I read. After the
sweetheart deal that the police chief and his assistant got and on
top of that they get a $350 car allowance.
Our City officials

“I just wanted to comment on that article that was in Feb. 24 Dispatch, “Council Questions Attorney.” I could not believe that article that I read. After the sweetheart deal that the police chief and his assistant got and on top of that they get a $350 car allowance.

“I think I will go down to the city today and see if I can get an application on maybe getting a part-time job for a dog catcher or a janitor or street sweeper or something; maybe I could come up with something like that too.”

And

“I currently work and live in Gilroy and I am very upset with the chief retiring and the assistant chief retiring that there was no notice of any kind, especially to the police department which I think is a real morale breaker there.

“I was thinking about calling my councilmen and asking them who is running the city because I pay a lot of taxes and maybe we shouldn’t have any elected officials it should just be run by Jay (Baksa).

“So anyways that’s my comment. Like I said, it just seems like there doesn’t seem to be any trust level anymore, no warm and fuzzy feelings.”

Red Phone:

Well good callers, thank you for your comments, I think they say it all.

Stolen Goods

“The Dispatch should print a page once a week of all the items that have been stolen along with a picture (at least items reported to the police).

If thieves can’t sell their items because of fear that someone will recognize it as a stolen item then maybe the thief will think twice about stealing in Gilroy.

Just in the last six months I’ve had (all in separate occasions) two bikes over $1,500 in value and a GPS, $900 in value, stolen from my house. I know someone in Gilroy is using my stuff. We have to do something about this.”

Red Phone:

The trouble is caller, police do not get photos of the stolen items, said Gilroy Police Sergeant Kurt Svardal.

“Part of it is that most stolen items do not have serial numbers and the other problem is that if someone has an item like a car stereo stolen, how many countless other stereos of the same brand could be out there?” he added.

Keeping track of your items by taking photos of them yourself, and locking them up tight looks like the best way to avoid them being lifted, good caller.

Embarrassed of street name

“I’m calling about the street naming, No Name Uno. I live off Rucker Avenue and that (No Name Uno) is my cross street and I am embarrassed to say that is my cross street every time someone asks my what my cross street is. It’s very embarrassing and I wish the name could be changed, thanks, bye.”

Red Phone

Well caller, if you missed the end of Wednesday’s Red Phone response to the concerned caller about the street name, you do have the power to get the name changed. City Planning Division Manager Bill Faus said that the city typically asks that 50 percent of the residents on the street sign a petition and then you forward the request to the city.

It’s an easy process. However, convincing residents who think No Name Uno needs to be changed might be a bit of a challenge.
