Whatever happened to the letter i in the new millennium? Single,
lower case i’s, double i’s and i used in front of every word have
taken over our vocabulary, and English teachers have thrown their
hands in the air and given up.

I believe it was IHOP that started the trend. Pancake houses have been known to be trendsetters.
And just a warning for you trendsetting Wii players; don’t hold on to your pancake while playing Wii tennis unless you want to be scraping butter off your plasma screen.
In case you have been vacationing in remote locales you may not have heard about the enthusiastic virtual sports playing on Nintendo Wii consoles that have resulted in holes in walls, televisions and blackeyes for unassuming bystanders of the game. It’s getting a bit Wiidiculous.
Throwing their bodies around the room this past weekend is typical of a party at the Schmidt residence in San Martin.
Originally from the island of Trinidad, Leslie Schmidt did not mind when her husband, Richard Schmidt, moved the newly purchased dining room table aside to dance a celebratory birthday boogie to his favorite Caribbean tunes downloaded for him by his son, Kyle Schmidt from his iTunes menu.
Party guests Nino and Jeanette Saso shared Richard’s enthusiasm for the carnival music after traveling with the Schmidt family to Trinidad a few years ago.
Todd and Alexia Johnson, who after years of hearing about the Schmidts and doubting their existence, finally met the couple during the weekend bash.
A night at the Schmidt house is a treat for anyone who visits with kids of all ages running in and around the conversations gleeful in their celebration of family and togetherness.
Kim and Larry Roth found the evening relaxing but toward the end began rehearsing their New Year’s Eve program.
The Roths, along with several other South County couples, planned an elaborate talent show/geography lesson/linguistics class/costume design contest/New Year’s eve party where each couple came dressed in a chosen country’s traditional outfit, sang or performed a skit and prepared a traditional food item.
Michelle Sampson, a friend of Kim Roth, had her doubts going into the evening alongside her kilt wearing husband, Dave, but as Michelle reports, “It was so much fun!
“There were six main courses and the couple who chose Spain brought 12 grapes to eat at midnight. By that time I was so full I didn’t think I could stuff the grapes down.”
Stuffing the arms of local schools with dictionaries was the benevolent action of members of the Gilroy Elks Lodge No. 1567.
I think they’re on to something … this may help the i situation.
If, as the Elks have planned, the dictionaries are taken home by the 1,667 third-grade students of the Morgan Hill and Gilroy school districts and used, the millennial generation may have a chance to find out how to properly use an i. i doubt it.
Ciao for now.
