Jose “Lalo” Hernandez died Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, in San Jose.

His biggest enjoyments were the Beatles, Giants, and 49ers, but most important to him was spending time with his grandsons, family and his many friends. He proudly worked for United Technology Corporation for more than 18 years.

He is survived by his sons, Gabriel Hernandez and Jarrod Hernandez both of Gilroy; sisters, Maria Hernandez, Margaret Eglinton and her husband Richard, Esther Castaneda and her husband Frank, Peggy Hernandez and her fiancé Jess Sanchez, Terry Heredia and her husband Robert, all of Gilroy, and Susie Salas and her husband Carlos of Whittier; brothers, Ted Hernandez and his wife Ortencia, Lupe Hernandez, all of Gilroy, Jose Hernandez and his wife Stella of Los Banos, Humberto Hernandez of Los Angeles, and Frank Montalvo and his wife Theresa of Texas; grandsons, Gabriel, Jr., and Julian Hernandez, and their mother Dolores Garcia, of Gilroy. Mr. Hernandez was expecting his first granddaughter next month to be named Layla, by mother Serena Fuentez, of Gilroy; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Theodoro and Angelina Hernandez, brother John Hernandez, Godson Carlos Vaca and his children’s mother Theresa Salgado.

A vigil will be held at 7pm, Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Gilroy.

Funeral services will begin at 9:30am, Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, at the funeral home, then to St. Mary’s Church, for Mass at 10am. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Gilroy.

Arrangements are under the direction of Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy.
