The accolades for the Gilroy field hockey team don’t stop just because the season is over.
Three Mustangs were named to the Central Coast Section Team for their efforts during the season. Emma Leach and Katrina ‘KC’ Carter were named First Team All CCS, while Tayler Silacci was named Second Team All CCS.
Gilroy and Christopher both had successful seasons and were rewarded by combining for 13 All-League honors in field hockey.
Gilroy’s Leach and Carter were named to First Team All-League in the Mount Hamilton A League. Emma Morley, Sherelle Butler and Kristen Mank were named First Team in the Mission Trail Athletic League for Christopher.
Leach was also given the Most Valuable Player and Coach’s Award in Gilroy’s team awards. Carter was the Most Valuable Offensive player while Silacci was the Most Valuable Midfielder. Steph Marquez earned Most Valuable Defender. Ang Hayes was given the team’s Inspirational award and Maddie Cox was named Most Improved.
Tayler Silacci, Jackie Jauregui and Lilybeth Mendoza earned Second Team honors for Gilroy, while Jordan Evanger, Emily Hilkene and Brook Loesch were named Second Team for CHS. Mariana Bura was given an honorable mention for Christopher, while Giana Brown earned the Sportsmanship Award.
The Cougars finished the season 11-2-1 and lost in the first round of the CCS playoffs to Monta Vista. Gilroy was 15-4-2 overall and ended its season with a 1-0 loss to Archbishop Mitty in the CCS semifinals.
