If there’s one thing to be said about the Gilroy girls basketball team, it’s that it knows how to battle. 
Playing with only five players — or just four at certain points — the Mustangs kept things interesting with Greenfield before falling 35-26 Tuesday at home.
“At different points of the game we played with only four players to rest some that were either bleeding, cramping or (having) asthma issues,” GHS coach Mitchell Pierce said. 
Adina Valencia led the team with 14 points, while Nia Pollard had eight. 
Gilroy (3-2) will have some time to heal before its next game which is at 7 p.m. Dec. 27 vs. Yerba Buena.

Mustangs top Oak Grove
Jordan Juarez did it all for the Mustangs on Tuesday night.
Juarez picked up two goals and an assist, helping Gilroy (4-0-1) to a 3-2 win over Oak Grove at home.
Juarez struck first off an assist from Emmanuel Cruz to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead, but Oak Grove was able to tie up the game before the half.
It was Juarez again after the break, this time assisted by Andres Jimenez to give Gilroy a 2-1 lead. Oak Grove tied it up once again before Luis Hernandez netted the game winner assisted by Juarez.
The Mustangs will be back on the field at 5:45 p.m. Thursday to host Soquel.
WRESTLING
Cougars fall to Monta Vista
Six Christopher wrestling won their matches, but it wasn’t enough to lift the team past Monta Vista.
The Cougars lost 41-35 to the visitors Dec. 11 in their first home dual of the season. 
Jimmie Lopez won a decisive 15-0 decision while Felipe Duenas, Dean Agustin, Mario Anchando, Jacob Myers and Navi Pannu all won by a pin. 
Keanu Calimpong lost his match 6-1 and Raul Meza lost 12-4. Tobias Mendoza lost by pin, while Anthony Figueroa lost 14-3. Zack Taylor and Jessie Brown also lost by pin.
Christopher will compete at 8 a.m. Friday and Saturday at the Reno “Tournament of Champions”. The girls team will compete at 9 a.m. Friday at the James Lick Varsity Girls Tourney.
