City of Morgan Hill public safety personnel will conduct free basic training for those who wish to volunteer for the Community Emergency Response Team.Â
Training starts Feb. 27 and will continue until April 17, at the Morgan Hill police department’s emergency training room. Courses will take place Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9:30 p.m.Â
CERT basic training is free to South Santa Clara County residents. For more information and to register, go to www.mhcert.com.
Following a major disaster, fire, law, and emergency medical services will not be able to meet the demand for their services. Individuals and families in these situations will need to be self-sufficient for a minimum of three days, according to a press release from the City’s Office of Emergency Services. CERT training can help residents better understand how to be prepared and respond to a major disaster.Â
Course sessions will be offered by Morgan Hill Police and Morgan Hill Fire Department personnel. The CERT curriculum to be offered was developed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Training will be offered in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations.Â
