 Dr. Allan James Gherini, 92, died January 30, 2013, in Manhattan. Born on February 10, 1920, in San Francisco to Amante and Elizabeth Robb Gherini, he grew up in Redwood City, graduating from Sequoia High School in 1938.
 In World War II, he was stationed in Australia, where he met Royle Munro of Moree, New South Wales. They married in 1944.
 After the war, they returned to California. He graduated from Stanford University in 1946 and from med school at SUNY Downstate in 1950. He completed his surgical training in California.
 In 1961 he moved with his family to Gilroy, where he opened a private practice. His wife Royle died in 1972. Â
 He married Yolanda Spado in 1977. They retired to Palm Springs in 1986, and to Manhattan in 2011.
 In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children: Steven Gherini, Susan Gherini Bell (Sam), Dr. Stuart Gherini (Joan), Dr. Scott Gherini, and Sandra Gherini Haskin (Brian); two step-children, Patricia Spado and Angelo Spado; eleven grandchildren, two step-granchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
 He was predeceased by Barbara Pappani Gherini, the late wife of Steven Gherini. All who knew and loved Allan will miss his kind and caring ways.
