Hard Ninety completed a 9-1 run through the Men’s DD Basketball League regular season Wednesday with a 54-46 victory over Recology at Solorsano Gymnasium.
Hard Ninety, the top seed for the playoffs, will face Recology, the fourth seed, on Wednesday in the first round. District 5, at 8-2 the second seed, plays the third-seeded Hawks in next week’s other semifinal.
Tony Travis and Frank Tomasetti scored 15 points apiece as Hard Ninety turned back Recology. Josh Bleen aided the Hard Ninety cause with 14 points.
Recology, 5-5 on the season, trailed 22-18 at the intermission. Rob Silvia poured in 19 points and Romeo Travis scored 10 for the losers.
Hard Ninety was able to take a one-game lead in the standings with a 65-56 overtime win over District 5 last week. Tony Travis had 24 points, Mark Cisneros scored 19 and Tomasetti added 16 points. Justin Nicholson scored 23 points and Tucker Baksa scored 16 for District 5.
Nicholson scored 17 points Wednesday as District 5 completed the season with a 48-36 win over Free Range Laphog. Drew Pearson scored 12 points and Baksa scored 11 for the victors. LaMont Chappell led the Laphog offense with 10 points.
The Hawks improved to 5-5 Wednesday with an 82-36 win over the Spartans.
Hans Mendezona and Mark Taylan each connected on five 3-pointers on the way to 21 points for the Hawks. Jesus Reyes followed with 20 points, and Rick Holguin scored 10. Jordan Miller scored 20 for the Spartans.
Laphog outlasted the Spartans 48-36 last week as Nick Langone scored 15 points, Tony Shebib scored 12 and Chappell scored 11. Miller contributed 23 points for the Spartans.
