Due to “pressure from concerned members of the public,” family and friends, 22-year-old Colby Worsham – a suspect in connection with three separate burglary incidents this month – self-surrendered to the Morgan Hill Police Department Tuesday for the crimes of burglary, larceny and fraudulent use of credit cards, according to an MHPD press release.
“Morgan Hill Police Department thanks the community for their partnership,” the press release states. “It takes a community working together to keep us safe. Please remain vigilant and report suspicious behavior/activity.”
MHPD officers first responded July 8 to the 16700 block of Buckskin Court on reports that a victim was missing two of her credit cards, which had been used by the alleged thief at several businesses throughout Morgan Hill. The victim identified Worsham – who had stayed at her home the prior night – as a possible suspect, according to police. MHPD officers conducted a follow-up at Target on Cochrane Road, where Worsham was captured on video surveillance footage using the victim’s credits cards.
The second unrelated incident occurred July 22, when authorities responded to the skate park at the Centennial Recreational Center at 171 West Edmundson Ave.. The victim reported that a male suspect had stolen her cell phone off the counter at the skate park check-in trailer. Worsham was identified as the suspect and the incident was captured on video surveillance cameras at the park, police say.
In the third unrelated incident July 26, officers responded to the Verizon Wireless store at 235 Vineyard Town Center Way regarding a theft which had just occurred, the press release states. Store employees reported that a male suspect had entered the store and inquired about the features of an Apple iPhone 5. A display model was set on the store counter for Worsham, who grabbed the cell phone and fled the store. Worsham was positively identified by the witnesses as the suspect, police say.
“These above investigations are further examples of how assistance from the public can lead to the reduction of crime in our community,” MHPD states in the press release.
