As the weather warms, Gilroy Police have fought a multitude of criminals, including one felon with an AK-47 in his trunk. Here’s a few events:

Severe child abuse

After receiving reports at noon on May 2, Gilroy Police are investigating what they are calling a case of “severe child abuse” in a home on Sturla Way and Monterey Road. 

Felon caught with AK-47 and eight other guns

Erin Bass, 36, and Norbert Hernandez, 40, were stopped for a traffic violation at 10:18 p.m. on May 2 on Church Street. Bass was found holding a switchblade, and Hernandez was found to have an outstanding felony warrant for his arrest. During a search of the 1993 silver Oldsmobile, police found nine guns in the trunk, including an AK-47 assault rifle and two short barreled shotguns.  

Man arrested for autotheft and drugs

Gavin Qutob, 47, was found in possession of a stolen vehicle and keys at 11:55 p.m. on May 5. Meanwhile, he was also found in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana and drug pipes. Police also served him with an outstanding warrant.  

Pedestrian hit by car 

At 5:14 p.m. on May 6, a pedestrian crossing the street at a crosswalk at Mantelli Drive and Kern Avenue was hit by a 2010 black Ford Mustang. The pedestrian endured minor injuries.

Mother punches daughter

A juvenile on Sorrento Drive reported at 12:24 p.m. on May 7 that her mother punched her in the face and her father pulled her hair. She was taken to protective custody.
