A San Jose man and his passenger narrowly escaped serious injury on the U.S. 101 after a hit-and-run driver caused their car to crash into a semi-trailer truck Monday.
“The other car swerved and we had nowhere to go,” said Tinh Ba Le, 35, as he stood surveying the damage to his brother’s Toyota Camry. “There were so many cars.”
The accident occurred at around 1 p.m. in the southbound lanes of U.S. 101, just under the Church Street overpass near San Martin. California Highway Patrol officers are keen to hear from any witnesses.
According to CHP, a newer model, grey-colored van unexpectedly changed lanes and forced Tinh’s car toward the center divider. Tinh’s car then spun back out into oncoming traffic before being hit by the semi. The driver of the van fled the scene of the accident before law enforcement arrived. No other cars were damaged and no other drivers were injured, according CHP officers.
