Wednesday's homicide and attempted homicide occurred at a residence on the 7300 block of Chestnut Street, not far from Eliot Elementary School's playground.

Juan Guerra, 21, one of three suspects allegedly involved the April 3 double shooting that killed Gilroyan Jesse Emmanuel Silos, 30, and left another 37-year-old victim seriously injured, was arrested at 6:30 p.m. Friday in San Jose on homicide and attempted homicide charges according to a press release sent today from the Gilroy Police Department.

The arrest was the result of the investigative efforts of the GPD’s Anti-Crime Team in collaboration with the San Jose Police Department. Guerra was taken into custody at the intersection of Capitol Road and Snell Avenue. He was in a vehicle at the time and arrested by the SJPD without incident, the press release states. There are no outstanding victims associated to this homicide at this time.

The other two suspects are Jose Morales Cortez, 21, and a 17-year-old juvenile whose identity is being withheld. Both are being charged by the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office with murder and attempted murder. The San Jose branch of the South County District Attorney’s Office is handling the case, according to Assistant DA Scott Tsui. Cortez and the juvenile suspect are from Gilroy.

The three suspects are allegedly connected with the April 3 double shooting on the 7300 block of Chestnut Street, which was “motivated by gang affiliation,” police say, and cost Silos his life. Police say the two victims were shot multiple times.
