Hundreds of incorrect report cards are making their way into the hands of Brownell Middle School parents.

Parents received an automated phone call from the school informing them that the wrong report cards had been sent out and that they’d be receiving the correct ones soon. However, the message did not indicate what was wrong about the report cards so parents were left wondering.

Principal Greg Camacho-Light said that the report cards had been printed without the final quarter and semester grades. Brownell staff caught the error when an alarmed parent came in Tuesday asking why the last grade on the report card wasn’t what the parent expected. The school sent out a new batch Wednesday, Camacho-Light said.

“We definitely made it a priority,” he said.

Parents should disregard the first report card they receive and pay attention to the second one, he said. If they’re still confused, call Brownell, he said.

The final grade noted on the incorrect round of report cards was students’ progress report grades, which are often boosted by the end of the quarter with the completion of extra credit, Camacho-Light said.

The grades on the incorrect report cards “reflect where we were when the angst started setting in” about mid-quarter, he said.

He didn’t know how the error occurred.

Parents should expect a follow up phone call and the correct report card within the next few days.
