Roy Albert Summers Jr.

Roy Albert Summers Jr. died at his Gilroy residence on October 5, 2009. He was born in Dinuba, CA to Roy Albert Summers and Loucylle Marie Summers who preceded him in death. Roy was a horseshoer for 50 years. Initially introduced to the shoeing of horses by his father and grandfather, Roy became a professional farrier and went on to receive his certification in Corrective Farrier Science at Arizona State University. He shod horses in AZ, NV, OR, and CA both on and off racetracks. People enjoyed his humor, wit, and the many stories of his horseshoeing adventures. Roy had a genuine love for horses. He once told his mother as a small child, “People aren’t pretty – HORSES are pretty!” Even after he retired he would stop by his former customers’ barns and feed carrots to his “old friends.” His life revolved around the hoses he shod, the horses he owned and always, his beloved dogs. He is survived by two sisters and a brother – Shene Kouretas (Gilroy, CA), Dwight Summers (San Martin, CA), Karen Mastin (Woodbridge, VA), five nephews and two nieces. He will be dearly missed.

At Roy’s request, no services will be held.
