Gilroy Police are investigating the death of an 87-year-old woman who was struck by a 30-year-old man in a Mercedes on the 800 block of 5th Street Tuesday at 9:20 p.m.
The driver has not been arrested and agreed to a blood test on the spot, according to GPD Sgt, Royce Heath. “The driver passed a parked vehicle and collided with her,” said Heath. “We’re trying to determine the collision factors.”
He said there was no evidence of alcohol or drugs being a factor or any criminal intent, but were awaiting test results. Police weren’t releasing her name, pending notification of family.
“He evidently didn’t see the female and struck her,” said Heath, adding that the man stayed on the scene and cooperated with officers.
This collision is being investigated by Officer R. Arbizu. Anyone with information regarding this collision is urged to call 408-846-0350. Information can be left anonymously.
