Gilroy Police Department Media Release **Suspicious Death**

 
Details: On July 20, 2016, at approximately 2:17 pm, Gilroy Police Officers responded to a residence in the 800 block of Sorrento Drive for a report of a reckless vehicle. The caller initially reported her adult daughter was driving recklessly through the neighborhood. Shortly thereafter, the caller advised her daughter came back to the residence.
Officers arrived a short-time later and contacted the daughter outside the home. The daughter advised her mother had shot herself inside the residence. Officers entered the residence and located the mother with a suspected gunshot wound. A firearm was recovered at the scene.
Lifesaving efforts were performed on the victim by first responders at the scene. Those efforts were ultimately unsuccessful and she was pronounced deceased by Gilroy Fire Personnel.
This case is being investigated as a suspicious death. Investigators continue to gather facts, interview witnesses and are currently evaluating a variety of leads. The victim’s identity is being withheld until proper notifications are made.
This death investigation remains active and on-going.Further information will be released as it becomes available.
