Gilroy – Gilroy golfer Ryan Clark might want to consider taking an AP test before every golf meet.
Clark, who had to take an advanced placement English test before Monday’s TCAL finals at the par–72 San Juan Oaks Golf Course, shot a 10–over 82 to qualify for the CCS championships.
“Ryan Clark played very well,” said Gilroy head coach Eric Kuwada. “He went from his car to the tee and shot the team’s low score.”
As a team, Gilroy missed third–place by three points, finishing behind Hollister (431 points) in fourth with 433 points. Palma (397) won the meet, followed by second–place Salinas (427). Live Oak (476) and North Salinas rounded out the competition.
Some rough conditions didn’t help the ‘Stangs.
“Thirty mile per hour winds, gusty and the pollen count was very high,” Kuwada said. “So it made it tough to focus when your nose is running and you’re sneezing.”
As of now, Clark will be the only Mustang competing in the CCS meet. However, Kuwada said the junior might have another AP exam conflict. Also, if Hollister is chosen to get one of the five at–large bids at tomorrow’s CCS meeting, the second and third finishers for Gilroy, sophomore Jordan Miller (87) and junior Stephen Freeth (87) will also get in to the championships as individual competitors.
