Each month, the principals of Gilroy and Christopher high schools choose a total of four students (two from GHS and two from CHS) to spotlight. CHS sophomore Jake Moen, 16, is this week’s Student of the Week.
What inspires you?
I think the one thing that inspires me most is my Mom, Dad, and my two sisters Alexis and Allaena. Because without all their support and everything they do for me, I don’t know where I would be in life.
What is your favorite subject in school, and why?
My favorite subject in school is English. I like English because the class is very challenging, but always enjoyable at the same time.Â
If you had the power to change one thing in the world, what would it be?
If I could change one thing in the world, I would change how long the school year was and make it a lot shorter.
If you could go anywhere, where would you go?
If I could go anywhere, I would go to Rio de Janeiro in 2016 so I could see some of the summer Olympics and the athletes.
Name one big challenge in your life right now:
One big challenge in my life is balancing school and sports. I want to succeed in both, so that is always hard.
What is your dream job?
I think my dream job would have to be a sports photographer for a magazine like Sports Illustrated, or an architect. But, I really don’t know what I want to do for a career quite yet.
If you were stuck on a deserted island, what three things could you not live without?
If I was stuck on a deserted island and there was already food and water, I would have to bring my iPhone, a surfboard, and my bed.
Favorite book:
I have a lot of favorite books, like the Percy Jackson series and the Harry Potter books, but if I had to choose one, it would be The Complete Sherlock Holmes book by Arthur Conan Doyle.
Something that makes you smile:
Things that make me smile are my good friends, my family, and football.
