Gilroy Police responded to a full meal of Garlic Capital crime this week. Here is a sampling of a few incidents:
Stolen RV goods
At 1:35 p.m. on Oct. 19 the owner of Toscano’s RV Center on Monterey Street reported almost $19,000 in stolen wires, batteries and electronics from his lot. The victim believes that the suspect is taking the wires and selling them to recycle centers.
Tagging teens
Two 13-year-old males and one 12-year-old male were arrested for vandalism when they were spotted tagging windows and a bench with black markers at Brownell Middle School on Carmel Street at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 19 by an off duty officer, who called in on duty police to handle it. The juveniles were cited and released to their parents that evening.
Rowdy man arrested at bar
Jose Rios, 22 of Salinas, was arrested at 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 20 after he was detained by security at Rio Nilo on Monterey Street when he allegedly assaulted one of their staff members. Police arrived and tried to escort a thrashing and writhing Rios into the police car. Police said Rios kept attempting to jerk away from them and kicked the door of the police car. He was restrained with a lower body wrap and placed in the car. He was arrested for being drunk in public and for resisting arrest, and was taken to Santa Clara County Jail.
Car collides into house, suspects flee
At 3:05 a.m. on Oct 21, a 2004 gray Ford Focus collided into a residence on the 7700 block of Chestnut Street, causing damage to the home. The occupants of the car fled the scene, leaving the vehicle, and their whereabouts are unknown to police. The car had moderate front end damage and a front wheel had broken off its axle. The resident of the home reported she heard two male voices say “Hurry run,” after she heard the crash outside her home. They had fled by the time she looked outside.
DUI arrest
Police saw someone driving a 2007 black Dodge Caliber erratically. The driver pulled over, and police conducted a DUI investigation. Gerardo Sosa, 39, was arrested for driving under the influence and the possession of narcotics at 10 p.m. on Oct. 21. (Police also allegedly found two grams of cocaine on Sosa.) He was taken to Santa Clara County Jail without incident.
