Satori, from a Zen perspective, means “a taste of enlightenment.” In the Santa Clara Valley, it also means a family-owned winery and vineyards (SA is for Sandy, TO is for Tom, and RI is for their 8-year-old son, Riley). From this 20-acre Oasis of sandy loam soil on the eastern edge of the Gilroy foothills, they create estate-grown, hand-made, love-infused “Big Reds” (Merlot, Zinfandel, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and petite sirah).
In the past year alone, Satori’s estate wines have garnered six silver medals, five gold medals, two double gold medals, and one “best of class” award.
Tasting is available every Saturday and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m., and features an open-air tasting “cabana,”  a walking labyrinth of rosemary and lavender, bocce ball court, picnic tables, music (frequenty live), and an open invitation for visiting “dognitaries” to play with the six resident winery dogs. As Sandy likes to say: “Please come for the wines, but linger in the beauty, the color, the camaraderie. A Satori Story is sure to follow.”
