Sophomore forward Dillon Day scored 16 points to lead Christopher’s boys basketball team to a season-opening 74-64 win over visiting Soledad on Wednesday.
Day led four double-figure scorers for the Cougars, who overcame a fourth-quarter surge by Soledad.
“I thought that our kids played a great game, but we also had some constructive learning moments,” Christopher coach Kaden Bahner said.
Wyatt Rocheleau scored 13 points for Christopher, which got 12 points from Shane Suttles and 10 points from Andrew Foster, respectively.
“The first half was excellent,” Bahner said. “Everybody got in the game, we did great with second-chance points and attacked the basket.”
Christopher is scheduled to play Overfelt of San Jose on Saturday afternoon at Oracle Arena in Oakland as part of the Golden State Warriors’ “Play Where the Pros Play” program, which rewards teams for ticket-selling fundraising efforts.
“I think we try to tell our kids it’s like any other game, but I want those kids to have that experience,” Bahner said.
