Incarnate Faith, a church community that opened a location downtown the beginning of November, is holding a holiday boutique Dec. 8 to raise money for struggling single mothers and families in Gilroy.
The boutique will feature work from local artists and crafters who will donate at least 30 percent of their profits to Community Bridge, the church’s new outreach that focuses on meeting the physical and emotional needs of Gilroy families through things like marriage counseling, youth mentoring and ESL classes.
From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 8, shop the boutique at the church’s new building, 7652 Monterey St., to support Community Bridge. Artists and crafters will sell handmade hats, jewelry, photography and more.
The church plans to open Community Bridge gradually over the next few months.
“We’re trying to provide assistance to single moms and families who may be struggling not only financially for things like food and clothing, but maybe emotionally with their families or children,” said Incarnate Faith Pastor Isaac Serrano.
Serrano said church members went door-to-door on the eastside of Gilroy a couple weeks ago with a survey that asked people what their needs are.
“We don’t want to come up with ideas that we want; we want to provide the things that the community says they want,” said Sam Whittaker, campus pastor at Incarnate Faith. “The goal is to establish a relationship with people and help them have a real life change not just get through the day.”
Serrano said church members spoke to hundreds of residents and found some common needs.
“People seemed most excited about ESL classes and youth mentoring, so we will work to provide those things,” Serrano said.
