Morgan Hill’s Shadow Mountain Baptist Church (17810 Monterey Road) recently announced several special events.
The annual Shadow Mountain Golf Classic will be held April 30. All proceeds from this tournament go to support the school, helping to “keep tuition low and quality high.” Gilroy’s Eagle Ridge Golf Club is the location of the event. The entrance fee of $200 per player includes golf, driving range, cart, fabulous buffet luncheon, silent auction and an awards ceremony with various prizes. To register, call (408) 782-7806.
All ladies ages 3 and up are invited to attend A Royal Tea in honor of Mother’s Day, which will be held at noon on May 5. This annual event has become so popular with church members that it was decided to open it to the public for the first time this year.
Featuring a British theme, it will include traditional luncheon fare like scones, sandwiches, salad and fruit. The cost is $15 if tickets are purchased in advance at the church or at BookSmart; tickets are $20 at the door.
The tea will feature music, skits and games, as well as crafts for younger children. Guest speaker is Linda Wilkerson, wife of a Long Beach pastor and mother of nine, who will discuss the role of mothers today. Acknowledging the British love of hats, there will be an award for the best hat, as well as a raffle with a Coach purse as the prize.
Shadow Mountain Baptist School will hold an Open House from 10 a.m. to noon May 19. Visitors can visit classrooms, enjoy refreshments, meet teachers and pre-register for the 2012-13 school year.
The following day, May 20, the church will hold Be Our Guest Sunday. Visitors to the 10:30 a.m. service will receive a free gift, and a complimentary lunch will be served afterward. This is an ideal opportunity to sample the pastor’s message, the church’s music and the congregation’s friendliness.
Vacation Bible School will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. June 4 through 8. All students from kindergarten through sixth grade are invited to attend. This free program will include Bible stories, games, crafts, snacks and contests.
The 10th annual Men and Boys Campout will be held at Don Pedro Reservoir above Truckee, June 21 through 23. Boys 5 and up are welcome to come with their dads to this time of fellowship in nature.
A Teen Camp will be held near Watsonville Aug. 6 to 10. Water sports, crafts, hiking and a speaker will make this an enjoyable activity for all who participate.
Shadow Mountain Baptist Church has had a remarkable history of preaching the Gospel in South County. Established as Valley Baptist Church in 1957, it hit on hard times, and in 1998 was restructured under new leadership and given its present name. In 2008, it moved its school to Monterey Street near downtown, and in 2009, all ministry operations were consolidated at the present site.
Today the church offers an abundance of activities: On Sunday, there are adult and teen Bible studies, Sunday school for kids, morning worship, children’s church and evening worship, as well as Bible studies and worship in Spanish. During the week children may attend the highly regarded Awana program, and there are also active groups for teens.
To learn more about any of these offerings, call the church at (408) 782-7806 or visit www.smbc.net.
