VFW Vets edged past the Borrachos 10-9 Tuesday to take sole possession of first place in the seven-team Men’s Fall DD Softball League at Las Animas Park.
The Vets hold a 5-1 mark with two games to play in the regular season. Both the Borrachos and Walton & Sons Masonry sit in second at 4-2.
Tony Murillo, Matias Franco and Mitchell Reese hit consecutive RBI-singles in the top of the second inning to give the Borrachos a 6-1 lead. VFW Vets responded with rallies in the second, third and fourth frames to pull even at 8-8.
Murillo doubled and scored on a Franco single to produce a 9-8 Borrachos edge in the top of the sixth. Isaac Sepulveda tripled and scored on a Mike Montenegro home run in the VFW Vets sixth.
Anthony Reddy went 3-for-4 with two RBI for the winners. Danny Melendez hit a three-run home run for the Borrachos.
Walton & Sons topped Victory Outreach 17-7 as Ricardo Rascon went 4-for-5 and scored four runs. Marc Vegas went 4-for-4 for the winners. Josh Hernandez and Hosea Rodriguez each lined a run-scoring triple for Victory Outreach.
Louie & the Outlaws (2-4) turned back Prime Exterminators 20-9 as Paul Musquez homered and Leroy Martinez went 4-for-4. Izzy Vasquez homered and JV Vasquez went 3-for-3 for Prime Exterminators.
The Dirty Vatos upset AG Construction 13-11 Wednesday at Las Animas to leave both clubs at 5-2 atop the Men’s Fall D League.
Robert DeLeon clubbed a three-run home run to cap an eight-run first inning for the Dirty Vatos. Ray Guzman tripled and scored on a Julian Telez sacrifice fly in the Vatos third. AG Construction pulled even at 11-11 with a four-run fourth. Henry Huerta, Ricky Gonzalez and Donny Gooding hit RBI-singles. The Dirty Vatos claimed the win when Brian Rudolf and Jordan Skyler each singled and scored in the fifth inning.
Alex Garcia hit a two-run homer for AG Construction.
Aaron Parker homered twice in a 4-for-4 effort to help 4-3 Feather Haven past the Players-HD Auto Glass 21-13. Joe Ojeda homered and tripled for the Players.
Freddie Sanchez Hardwood Floors (4-3) edged the Battle Brothers 20-18 as Rodney Clore provided a triple, double and single. Nate Mixter and Dylan Byrnes each went 3-for-4 for the Battle Brothers.
Corey’s Girls (5-1-1) rallied past Pops’ Gals 12-11 Wednesday to keep a one-half game edge in the race for first place in the Women’s Fall League at Christmas Hill Park.
Roni Rodriguez’ two-run single in the third inning gave Pops’ Gals an 8-3 lead. A three-run triple by Jazmine Perez keyed a five-run fourth for Corey’s Girls. Pops’ Gals responded with three runs in the fourth for an 11-8 cushion.
Laurie Dixon and Rose Toscano hit Corey’s RBI-singles in the sixth. Perez singled to open the Corey’s seventh, scoring the equalizer on an Eva Neibel double. Maya Valdez hit a two-out double to plate Neibel.
Kalai Kraze (5-2) kept pace with an 11-8 nod over Station 55.
Alicia Noriega went 3-for-3 and scored three runs for Kalai Kraze. Danielle Minkle went 3-for-4 and scored three Station 55 runs.
