Gilroy – Crews have finished widening Route 152, doubling the road from two lanes to four from Llagas Creek bridge to beyond the Old Llagas Creek bridge. The 300-meter segment is the final section of the project, funded by Measure B, a half-cent sales tax approved by Santa Clara County voters in 1996. The improvements were funded by $20.7 million in Measure B sales tax, and $5.5 million from the city of Gilroy.

“Highway 152 is a critical link between the Bay Area, central and southern California,” said Don Gage, County Board Supervisor and VTA Board Director. “The completion of this project is just the beginning of a series of improvements that will have a long term positive impact.”

VTA is also planning to revamp the intersection of Route 152 and Route 156, using a flyover for eastbound traffic continuing east on Route 152. The project is scheduled to start up in spring 2007, supported by a combination of local, state and federal grants. Gage has also expressed interest in a 4-lane highway to replace Route 152 as a major commuter artery.
