Dear Editor,

We at St. Mary School would like to thank the editorial board of the Dispatch for supporting us in our request that the City Council exempt our planned science building from traffic impact fees. Further, we are grateful to the city staff for researching this issue and presenting an acceptable solution to the City Council for their vote.

The City Council took the “common sense” approach and unanimously agreed that this traffic impact fee did not pertain to our proposed building. We are grateful to Marie Blankley who presented our case so well. (We think she should run for City Council in the future.) And we sincerely appreciate the City Council members for their openness to and understanding of our viewpoint.

This experience has reconfirmed our trust in the system and the workings of city government. And we are extremely happy about the freed-up funds to use for our science building. We now have the permit, and after four years of planning our science lab is finally becoming a reality.
