What upgrades?
“This is regarding the Willey House upgrades the City Council just approved. Could you find out if the $166,000 is just to pay Perma-Green Hydroseeding for planting lawn or does it include upgrades? The article mentions installing garden sheds, trellis, lights, etc. eventually. Is this further expense or is it included in the $166,000? Thank you.”
Red Phone:
Caller, the $166,000 will go to create a back yard patio and raised staged area and for landscaping at the Willey House. The garden sheds, trellis and additional lighting are not covered by that fee and are part of long-range plans to upgrade the site. The city plans to finance those improvements on an ongoing basis through a fundraising campaign.
Bring on the wireless
“I want to register a comment about the idea of the wireless Internet available out there but not being brought to South County because it’s too costly. If there’s anyplace that needs it, it is South County. I live in the unincorporated area, a half mile north of the city limits. I’ve been trying to get broadband for years now and I can’t get it. I think it’s ironic that they said broadband’s out there but there are so many people on dialup. Maybe they should check and see that we’re on dialup because we don’t have a choice. I feel very disinfranchised because I’m so close and yet so far. I’m living in the dark ages of the Internet.”
Red Phone:
Your comment has been registered, caller. Perhaps complaints will be heard and taken into consideration – and that South County will finally see the light and get up-to-date when it comes to the Web.
A mixup
“Hi Red Phone, I noticed what I think is an error in your Home & Garden section Wednesday, Feb. 1 paper on page C5 in the Candace Olsen article. I think the before picture and the after picture are mixed up. You might want to doublecheck that. Thank you.”
Red Phone:
It doublechecked just for you. According to the Lifestyles Editor – oops, it indeed was a mixup that slipped through. Thanks for bringing it to the staff’s attention and Red Phone apologizes for any confusion the error might have caused.
Note to readers
The Red Phone wants to offer an update to the caller who let it know about a local pet store that had closed and his concerns that many animals had been left in the vacant building. Your call concerned animal-loving Red Phone and it passed your information along to the City Editor, who in turn, immediately sent out a reporter and photographer to investigate. Much to everyone’s relief, the shop was vacant – not only of people and products, but of all the pets as well. According to neighboring establishments, Our Pet Shop has gone out of business. Thanks for letting the Red Phone know about your concerns and it’s pleased that this turned out well.
