Gilroy – In 2005, Bach to Blues at Gavilan College sold out and inspired a renaissance in the Gavilan College Music program.

Tickets for Bach to Blues 2006, Friday Feb. 24, are no longer available online or by phone. A limited number of tickets will be available at the box office on the night of the performance beginning at 6:30pm. At 7:45pm, tickets that have not been claimed will be sold. Standing room only tickets may be sold. Tickets are $30 for V.I.P. seats, $15 for general admission, and $10 for seniors/students.

Dual immersion meetings

Gilroy – Dual Language Immersion Program informational meetings will be held in English on Thursday, March 2 from 9 to 10am or 6 to 7pm. Meetings conducted in Spanish will be held on Thursday, March 2 from 7 to 8pm or on Friday, March 3 from 9 to 10am. Meetings will take place at Las Animas School, 8450 Wren Ave., Rm. 8.

Jazz concert series

San Jose – The San Jose Jazz Society presents the Sunday Jazz Concert Series every Sunday from 3 to 5pm through March 26 at the Improv, 62 South Second Street, Downtown San Jose. Tickets are $17.

This Sunday, Kristen Strom will be performing with saxophonist-composer Jimmy Heath, trombonist Steve Turre, singer Kevin Mahogany and trumpeter Jon Faddis as well as the San Jose Jazz Orchestra. Listening samples online at www.kristenstrom.com

Vision Literacy Orientation

Make a difference in your community and help adults learn to read and achieve their goals. Vision Literacy is recruiting volunteer tutors, come and learn more about the program by attending a short volunteer orientation. Spring orientation times:

– Tuesday March 28 6:30 to 7:30pm in the Campbell Library

– Saturday April 8 10:30 to 11:30am Milpitas Office 540 Valley Way

– Tuesday April 11 6:30 to 7:30pm Mountain View Library.

Youth Exchange Program

Gilroy – Face the World students will begin arriving in August to participate in an academic semester or year abroad aimed at promoting peace, understanding and internationalism. Face the World welcomes families from Hollister and Gilroy and the surrounding areas to help carry the Olympic torch this fall and host a student. Students represent all five continents symbolized by the Olympic Rings and come to the U.S. to experience life and values.
