Police will pass out fliers after multiple sightings
Gilroy – A pair of mountain lions have taken a liking to The Forest – a gated community at the top of Rancho Real and Welburn Avenue. The cats have been spotted roaming through backyards in the neighborhood several times over the past week, police said.
The two cats were originally spotted Friday night, again by residents on Saturday afternoon and then Monday morning. The mountain lions were observed walking through backyards by at least three different neighbors, police said.
Mountain lions do not typically travel in pairs unless it is a mother and her cubs, Department of Fish and Game officials said.
Police will be distributing fliers to nearby residents today, offering safety tips and facts about mountain lions.
Officials said call police and remain indoors if you see one. If you are face to face – do not run. Remain calm and make yourself look larger than the cat.
