Red Cross names new regional CEO
San Jose – Jay Winkenbach has been selected as the CEO for the American Red Cross Blood Services, Northern California Region. Winkenbach has been Acting CEO of the Northern California Region since Aug. 1. The territory includes Alameda, Contra Costa, Monterey, San Benito, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties with headquarters is in Oakland.
Winkenbach has been repeatedly recognized for delivering superior customer service. In his role as Director of Hospital Services and Marketing, Winkenbach received the American Red Cross Tiffany Award for Outstanding Achievement in Management, as well as the National Hospital Sales Executive Award.
Winkenbach steps in at a critical time for the local blood supply. The Red Cross has issued emergency appeals for donors the last two years in January due to a dramatic fall-off in blood donations during the holiday season. His first step to increase January donations is to keep blood centers in Oakland, Newark, Pleasant Hill, Pleasanton and San Jose open one hour later on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

New board members join Ventana Wildlife
Monterey – Bill Freeman of Monterey and Janet Shing of Salinas have been elected to the board of directors of the Ventana Wildlife Society.
Freeman has been in the design department at Robert Talbott’s of Monterey for the past two years. He is a graduate of George Mason.
Shing has been a program associate at the Community Foundation for Monterey County for three years. She is a graduate of Hampshire College and has lived in the area for 10 years.
