with a 14-7 decision over the Big Kahunas Sunday at Las Animas

Gilroy – Henry Huerta poked three extra-base hits and scored three runs as A to Z claimed the regular-season Co-Rec Winter C League title with a 14-7 decision over the Big Kahunas Sunday at Las Animas Park.
A to Z (7-1) is seeded first in the post-season action scheduled for Thursday Oct. 26 at Las Animas. A to Z will face fourth-seed Big Kahunas (4-4) at 6:30pm. Jose Serrano Trucking (6-2), the second seed, hosts third-seed Frame Your Family In Eyewear (5-3) at 7:40pm, with the two winners squaring off at 8:50pm for the playoff crown.
The Big Kahunas fashioned a four-run rally in the top of the first inning behind six consecutive hits. Kelly Cummins and Vicki Groppe stroked RBI-singles, Mark Logan a run-scoring triple for the Kahunas.
Kenny Hopf drove an RBI-single and Dennis Subia lined an RBI-double as A to Z responded with two markers in the first inning. A to Z struck for seven runs in the second, capped by a Norma Wendt RBI-single.
Hopf muscled a solo home run in the fourth. Danny Benz paced the Kahunas offense with a double and two singles.
Jose Serrano Trucking turned back Frame Your Family 14-6 to prep for next week’s rematch in the playoffs.
Rick Trujillo hit a two-run triple in the second and Edgar Polanco swatted a three-run triple in the third as Jose Serrano Trucking grabbed a 6-0 lead. Polanco went 4-for-4 and Eddie Flores contributed a single and two doubles to the Serrano Trucking surge. Derrick Justice managed a two-run double and Jason Trujillo scored twice for the Framers.
Cosa Nostra (2-6) completed the season with a 27-3 victory over Loco’s Only.
Louie Garcia crushed a home run, three triples and a double for Cosa Nostra. Lupe Lemus homered and Matias Franco added a single, double and triple for the winners. Frank Navarrete singled and doubled, scoring twice for Loco’s Only. Jim Castaneda added two singles.

Lights Out improved to 3-4 in Co-Rec Winter B League competition Sunday at Las Animas with a 9-5 nod over Jennie’s Crew-Dutchman ‘s Pizza.
Lights Out erased a 2-1 deficit by pushing across five runs in the bottom of the second inning. Rosendo Acevedo and Andrea Castaneda lined consecutive doubles to cap the Lights Out rally.
Acevedo added a home run and double, Castaneda a double to the winners’ assault. Wolfie Sandoval powered a home run and Gil Barry and Michelle Howe each collected a single and double for 4-3 Jennie’s Crew-Dutchman ‘s Pizza.
All Out joined Jennie’s in second place at 4-3 with a forfeit win over Dequin’s Auto Body.
