Should the City Council raise the amount that can be spent on a
single city political campaign from approximately $25,000 to
$35,000?
THIS WEEK’S WEB POLL:
Should the City Council raise the amount that can be spent on a single city political campaign from approximately $25,000 to $35,000?
– No. $25,000 is more than adequate for a competent and creative candidate. The additional $10,000 would open the door to that much more influence by special interests.
– If the monies were raised legally, following the rules in place, I see no reason why not.
– Yes… the amount should be raised. Take the population of Gilroy and round to 50,000 and apply a $1.00 per citizen is not unreasonable for a campaign budget. We have a national presidential election raising campaign funds up to a billion dollars, so 35,000 or $50,000 does not seem unreasonable..
– No, leave it as it is, but there should be no unreported donations, no matter how much the donation is.
– n No. $25,000 is plenty.
– I have mixed emotions! We really don’t need more propaganda from potential candidates but will $10k make that much of a difference? NO, I would rather see candidates walking the precincts and talking to the people rather than mailing more pieces and holding more fund raisers! – Yes. Given today’s media prices, and the price to rent a space for a campaign gathering etc., unfortunately, $35K is probably a reasonable limit.
– No. I already am completely overwhelmed by the amount of political “junk mail” left at my door step. Let’s save a tree, and expand the live debate and other “free” opportunities to encourage the political dialogue.
– Don’t see a problem with it as long as it is transparent.
