I read in frustration today that our elected city council members voted 4-2 to send city general funds to the Red Cross for hurricane relief. Although generous, such an action is readily available to each individual personally, and is therefore not a responsibility reserved to our elected trustees.
I applaud both Craig Gartman and Bob Dillon for dissenting, and am reminding all our elected representatives to stick to city business rather than charitable giving.
