Cadet Nick Jon Van Dyke of Gilroy was recently honored for
outstanding academic achievement at The Citadel, the military
college of South Carolina, for the fall semester of the 2002-03
academic year.
Cadet Nick Jon Van Dyke of Gilroy was recently honored for outstanding academic achievement at The Citadel, the military college of South Carolina, for the fall semester of the 2002-03 academic year.

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Nicholas Van Dyke.

Van Dyke achieved Dean’s List recognition, which is given to those cadets registered for 12 or more semester hours whose grade point ratio is 3.2 or higher with no grade below a C for the previous semester’s work.

In addition, Van Dyke earned a Gold Star for achieving a 3.7 GPA or higher. Gold Star awards are worn on the collars of the full dress and dress uniforms and the summer leave uniform.

Kailynn Kitaji, an Earlham (Ind.) College student and daughter of John Kitaji of La Selva Beach, Calif., and Ida Williams of Gilroy is gaining work experience this semester at the Philadelphia Center through Earlham’s off-campus programs.

One of three core components is a professional internship. The center offers more than 700 opportunities in education, law, psychology, business, social services and the arts. In addition to spending four days a week on the job, students in the program participate in a city seminar and an elective course.

Earlham is a slective liberal arts college in Richmond, Ind. Engaging students with a changing world, Earlham is dedicated to the development of inegrating international perspectives in education.

Maureen McGinty of Gilroy is listed on the 2002 fall semester’s Dean’s List at the University of Portland.

Mcginty is a freshman and is majoring in secondary education. Students need at least a 3.5 GPA to make the dean’s list.
