Gilroy – Most All-Star teams try to give every player an equal amount of time on the field over the course of a game. On Thursday, the Gilroy Nationals 8-9-year-old All-Star team was able to give every player that opportunity in one inning.
After giving up two runs to Scotts Valley in the bottom of the first inning, Gilroy stormed out of the dugout with a nine-run second inning that allowed every batter in the lineup a chance to hit. The Nationals ended up winning the contest 13-2.
Similar to how the team had handled Watsonville on Monday, winning 13-1, the game was called after the mercy rule was enacted at the end of the fifth inning.
Chad Hartman pitched three excellent innings, after have a shaky first frame. He also contributed a RBI single in the top of the fourth to give the Nationals a 10-2 lead. Alec Cordova came in to finish the game in relief.
Wanting to push the game out of reach in the top of the fifth inning, Bryan Easton crushed an RBI double just short of the left field wall. Easton later scored on a passed ball.
Dillon McFarland followed with a single to left field after a Cordova walk to give the Nationals an eleven-run advantage, and the final score of 13-2.
The Nationals next game will be played at 6pm July 10 at Field A-2 of the Gilroy Sports Complex.
