Gilroy’s varsity boys basketball team dispatched a patchwork group of former Mustangs, also known as the alumni, 73-49 in front of several hundred fans.
Senior big man Jason Conrad (28 points, 15 rebounds, six blocks) had his way in the paint, throwing down ten dunks, while senior guard and co-captain Derek Jensen was able to slash and strike from the outside for 22 points to go with eight rebounds and eight assists. Junior Elijah Harrel was also able to fill in several columns of the stat sheet by scoring six points, dishing out five assists and snatching six steals.
The present version of the Mustangs held a 33-15 advantage at halftime, which they only increased through an uptempo-pace after defensive stops or forced turnovers. Facing a 2-3 zone defense, the former Gilroy players had trouble finding gaps to penetrate and were rusty from the perimeter.
Former players that laced ’em up include: Jeff Hinn, Andrew Edwards, Scott Ksellsvig, Grant Richards, Jeremy Dirks, Jeff Gasper, Louis Godinez, Bobby Baksa, Gabe Gonzalez, Brad Nunes, Jay Baksa, Dallas Jensen, Robert Lucente, Donny Gooding, Abe Estorga, L.J. Nicholson and Julian Landeros.
