84.
Alvetta Y. Mondelli died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, at Good Samaritan Hospital, San Jose after a sudden illness. She was 84.

She was born and raised in Jeannette, Penn., and graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1941. She enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II and later married her husband in 1943.

The couple moved to Gilroy in 1945 and have been residents ever since. Mrs. Mondelli was a member of the St. Mary’s Parish, Italian Catholic Federation, Women in Touch, Wheeler Hospital and St. Louise Hospital auxiliaries and numerous bridge clubs.

She also enjoyed going on cruises and traveling.

She is the wife of the late Joseph A. Mondelli (1986); the mother of Michael J. Mondelli of Gilroy, JoAnn Mondelli Smith and her husband, Dean of Lake Oswego, Ore., and Gloria Mondelli Pollock and her husband, Edward of Gilroy; the grammie of Michael J. Mondelli of Gilroy, Monica S. Mondelli of Capitola, Jeffrey Smith and his wife, Danielle of Sherwood, Ore., Ryan Smith of Seattle, Wash., Sara Smith of Pendelton, Ore., Joe Smith of Lake Oswego, Shelby Pollock of Gilroy and Tori Pollock of Gilroy; the great-grandmother of Tyler Jeffrey Smith of Sherwood; the sister of Pearl Tangretti of Jeannette, Penn. and the late Art Yett, Elaine Bedont and Ruth Geyer; the sister-in-law of Mimi Serafin of Gilroy and the late Rose Quartiroli, Eva Boyd and Louise Novak; and many nieces and nephews.

A vigil will be held at 7pm Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004 at St. Mary’s Church, Gilroy.

Funeral services will begin at 1:30pm Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, then to St. Mary’s Church for Mass at 2pm.

Entombment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Gilroy. Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday afternoon from 1 to 5pm and also at the vigil.

The family would appreciate donations to the St. Mary’s School or St. Louise Hospital auxiliaries.
