San Juan Bautista – Anzar used a big second quarter Tuesday to pull away from visiting Anchorpoint Christian to win its season opener 72-38.
Ahead by one point after one quarter, the Hawks outscored the Warriors 23-5 for a 37-18 lead at halftime. James Henrard led the surge with 11 points and Scott Benson backed him with seven.
Benson led Anzar with 25 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks. Henrard added 18 points and eight assists. Eric Olson scored 11 points.
Adrian Rodriguez had 13 points and Victor Rodriguez added eight for Anchorpoint.
“It was a good opener for us,” said Anzar coach Ed Cecena. “They couldn’t match our size. Once we started pressing, were able to open things up. It was good to see our kids executing what we are teaching.”
