CALLER 1: I’d like to find out how come we don’t see anything in
your sports section regarding the other high school in town,
Anchorpoint?
CALLER 1: I’d like to find out how come we don’t see anything in your sports section regarding the other high school in town, Anchorpoint?
GREEN PHONE: Thank you, Caller 1. You have a supporter. Read on…
CALLER 2: I was wondering, the coverage that you guys are doing for the town of Gilroy, is it limited to just Gilroy High school or do you cover other high schools that are in Gilroy? I mean, it’s a community paper and Anchorpoint Christian High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams were never covered, never printed, never anything. We now have a girls’ softball team that is very competitive and a very competitive boys’ varsity baseball team that gets absolutely no attention whatsoever and I think if you guys are going to be a community paper, that you should cover all the schools in the community. Not just every single sport of Gilroy High School, which, that’s your prerogative. But I think it would be nice if you guys represented all the high schools in the town. Thank you very much.
GREEN PHONE: Thanks for your input, Callers 1 and 2. You’re both right, Anchorpoint Christian sports should get more coverage. And they will in the near future. With regards to the boys’ and girls’ basketball seasons, it was hard to cover games since Anchorpoint doesn’t have a home court. But the school does have softball and baseball fields, so expect some game coverage of those sports this spring.
A few related notes. Because the Dispatch is a community newspaper (as you pointed out, Caller 2) readers get to have a say in determining what the sports section prints. After all, it is your paper. Coaches are encouraged to help their own cause – and give the small sports department a hand – by sending in schedules, scores, stats and game summaries. The department will do its best to get the information in the paper
Here’s how the Dispatch sports department can be reached: By phone at 842-1694, by e-mail at sp****@************ch.com or by fax at 842-2206.
CALLER 3: Hi, I was just calling about the Wednesday March 15 article. It was Ohlone College and Gavilan Rams baseball. And in the photo description, it says “Justin Baker rips an Ohlone offering during last Thursday’s home game.” That is actually Erfain Ruiz, No. 22. Again, it’s Efrain Ruiz, No. 22, not Justin Baker.
GREEN PHONE: Caller 3, thanks for the correction. Upon further review of the Gavilan baseball roster provided to the Dispatch, we now see that both Baker and Ruiz are listed as No. 22. That’s where the mistake stemmed from. We apologize for the mistake and will get it right in the future.
Heck, if you know what Baker’s correct number is, feel free to make another call in to the Green Phone.
