Andrew S. Gonzales, 88, died on Thursday, Jan. 15. He was a former resident of Gilroy, residing in Shady Cove, Oregon for the last nine years.

Gonzales was born in Hilo, Hawaii, and came to California as a boy of 3 years old. He attended local schools and as a young man worked for the Porter Peabody Ranch in Gilroy. Later, he went on to own his own ranch in San Martin. After retiring from ranching, he worked for the Gilroy Unified School District as a bus driver for nine years, receiving many “safe driver awards” during that time.

He was a handyman, discovering practical things before their time. He met and married Louise Olivieri, of Gilroy. They were married for 53 years.

He is survived by his wife, Louise; one son, David H. Gonzales, his daughter-in-law, Elsa, and one granddaughter, Andrea, all of Florence, Ore. He is also survived by his sisters Lucille Isenburger, of Antioch, Vicky Henzi, of Westwood, Anne Scettrini, of Morgan Hill; his brothers Frank Giminez, of Morgan Hill, Tony Giminez, also of Morgan Hill, Moises Giminez, of Mission; his aunt Romona Corchero, of Union City; and many nieces and nephews.
