GILROY – The Gilroy High School Athletic Association will be holding the 29th Annual Crab Cioppino Feed and Dance Saturday, May 9, at Christopher Ranch.

The event will feature food, drink, live music and a silent auction in an effort to raise money for Mustangs sports for the 2009-10 school year. Best of all, the coaches, who normally control the squads local fans come out to watch, will be taking orders as waiters and servers.

“The event is always really crucial for us because it helps us pay our transportation bills,” GHS Athletic Director Jack Daley said. “Success at the event is critical.”

Last year’s event raised almost $20,000 dollars for the athletic department, Daley said. This year’s silent auction will include sports memorabilia as well as outings to local restaurants and golf courses amongst other items.

While ticket sales to this point have been slower than in years past, Daley said, the school is hopeful people will come out in support of their local sports.

“I certainly understand the economic times,” Daley said, “but hopefully we’ll get a lot of last minute interest.”

Tickets for the event cost $50 individually, or they can be purchased for $45 each when buying 10 or more. The group package is being called the “Recession Special.” Tickets can be purchased online at www.gilroyhighschool.com or by going to GHS between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
