Time for wine: The wineries of the Santa Clara valley are hosting the annual Passport Weekend from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The passport is $30 and can be purchased at any of the winery tasting rooms, at the Gilroy Visitors Bureau or the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce. Passports purchased earlier this year during the March 2010 Passport Weekend are still valid. A grand benefit: Sushi Omakase is celebrating its grand opening Friday through Sunday with half the ticket proceeds going to Rebekah Children’s Services in Gilroy. Gilroy native Rodger Lizaola and other top comedians will perform Saturday. Cost is $12. Donald Prieto will bring his Elvis performing skills Sunday. Hit up for a good cause: Victory Outreach will hold its sixth annual Handball Tournament on Saturday at San Ysidro Park. Registration begins at 8 a.m. The event, which is sponsored by the Gilroy Gang Task Force, will feature free food, raffle tickets and prizes. The tournament will be a double elimination, and prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place. Details: 848-6715.
William Weeks anyone? The monthly historic walking tour will explore the architectural legacy of William Weeks at 10 a.m. Saturday. This famous Central Coast architect has 15 surviving buildings in Gilroy, ranging from Wheeler Hospital to the Rebekah Children’s Home, a key commercial building on Monterey Street and several homes. Join members of the Gilroy Historical Society by meeting at the Gilroy Museum, 195 Fifth St. Reservations for the free tour are appreciated by calling the museum at 846-0446.
Willington anyone? Revelers still have three weekends left to experience the Northern California Renaissance Faire. Casa de Fruta, off Highway 152, has been transformed into “Willingtown” a fictional 16th Century village. Festivities are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and end Oct. 17.
